The final of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, showing the mighty USA team defeat the Netherlands, averaged 6.9 million out-of-home (OOH) viewers in the US, according to research from Tunity Analytics.
This makes it the second most-viewed football game of 2019 (after the USA-England semi-final); crucially, it also outperformed the 2018 men’s final which averaged 4.98 million OOH viewers.
The game, which the US Women’s National Team won 2-0, peaked at 12:53 PM ET, with 8.4 million OOH viewers and had 92% of all OOH viewing during the time period. The game delivered 59% of adults 25-54 and skewed 76% male.
Given the Sunday morning time period, the OOH numbers were down versus the USA vs England semi-final game, which drew 8.54 million, according to Tunity That game remains the leading televised soccer game to date in 2019 in the US and the tenth-highest televised sporting event year-to-date, among OOH viewers.
The game was only narrowly edged out for the ninth highest spot by the NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears on 2 January, which averaged 8.554 million OOH viewers.
